Information on passports and visas

Passport Information

If you are traveling abroad, you will need your passport!  If you don’t have one, you should probably apply for one at least 2-3 months before your travels.  You can avoid unnecessary costs and time stressing over when the passport will arrive.

Cost of passports range from $80-$110. This amount does not include other administrative fees.

For more information related to applying for a passport, renewing a passport, payment fees, and extra pages, see the U.S. Department of State (travel.state.gov).

Visas

If I am traveling abroad, I almost always consult the U.S. Department of State (travel.state.gov).  From this website you can check for entry (visa) requirements and current embassy alerts for that country.

Based on my travel adventures, I have obtained the following:

Visas in advance:  Brazil, China, Vietnam, Tanzania (recommended in advance)

Visas at port of entry:
  Cambodia, Kenya, Laos, Zambia

About Jan

In 2004 and 2010, I set aside time to travel the world in 3 parts. In 2004, I traveled to Thailand, Europe, and Pacific Northwest region of the U.S. In 2010, I traveled to 3 continents: Asia, South America, and Africa. I am not sure if I have a fascination with the number 3, but I seem to be constantly traveling by numbers.
