How to Pack Efficiently

If you are planning a long trip abroad, how should you pack efficiently?  Here are a few quick tips to pack your suitcase or backpack:

1.  Think about what you want to bring with you on your journey.  Click here for a sample packing list.

2.  Pack your toiletries and miscellaneous items in plastic/small bags.  Packing items in plastic bags is cost effective. Bring a few extra with you. You never know what you will buy abroad.

3.  Pack your smaller bags into a stuff sack, a plastic drawstring bag.  Stuff sacks can range from $6-$15 USD.

4.  Pack your clothes into packing cubes.  Most packing cubes are made of mesh and have handles for easy transport.  I use the Eagle Creek Pack-It Cube.

5.  Place your packing cubes, stuff sacks, and other items into your suitcase or backpack. If you are using a backpack, pack the heavier items on the top to distribute the weight.

Here are a few ways to pack efficiently. Happy Packing! Happy Travels!

About Jan

In 2004 and 2010, I set aside time to travel the world in 3 parts. In 2004, I traveled to Thailand, Europe, and Pacific Northwest region of the U.S. In 2010, I traveled to 3 continents: Asia, South America, and Africa. I am not sure if I have a fascination with the number 3, but I seem to be constantly traveling by numbers.
